Sleepy Town of Frederikshavn

Sadly, days spent sipping cocktails at luxurious, bohemian hotels don’t last forever. I’m back at work now, offshore in cold and rather rough seas!

Greece seems like a distant dream now, but not to worry, I’m already planning my next adventure. I’m hoping for a European weekend-getaway before spending a few weeks in the USA. Seattle perhaps, and then somewhere very, very hot! Cancun? I’m open to suggestions!

For work I had to travel to a little, sleepy town called Frederikshavn in Denmark.

Given the atmosphere down the one main street, I felt like I was the sole survivor during the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse. No really, it was eerily silent. To be fair, the day I arrived happened to be a national holiday, so didn’t quite help the lack of liveliness.

However, this quiet street surprised me. It was so pretty, with funky, modern light features and fancy boutique stores all along it. I had the best time slowly meandering my way down taking photos.

I used vscocam to edit all my photos. It’s an iphone/ipad camera app with minimal, elegant filter options that rivals that of instagram. I’m pretty much hooked on it now. It’s easy to use, and with no comment/like buttons, the layout is clean and simple which I love.

Guess what this is?

A bin! So much better than you’re average black, ugly street bins. I think we really need to take these on in other parts of the world. Although they are a bit too industrial looking.

I had a light and healthy lunch of fish cakes and salad (with a deliciously large helping of prawn cocktail mayonnaise that probably ruined the ‘healthy’ part). Never mind!

It was in a lovely outdoor cafe called Cafe Staehr.

They had one of the first italian espresso machines on display. It’s pretty neat! You can’t exactly have that nestled on your kitchen counter though can you.. I’d take my nespresso machine any day.

I can’t resist not including this mouth-watering bite of praline chocolate I had after lunch. It’s the last ‘sweet’ food I’ll be eating for the next 4 weeks. I’ve given myself the challenge of not having any sugar for a month while I’m offshore. It’s been surprisingly easy so far! I’m only a week in though..
