Time Out Mercado da Ribeira

As promised in my last 48 Hours in Lisbon post, this one is dedicated to my brunch feast at one of Lisbon’s best food markets, Time Out Mercado da Ribeira.

Bringing together some of the city’s most revered names in food and drink, the former fish market is now home to a selection of popular vendors as well as fish, fruit and vegetable counters.

With more food stalls packed under one roof than you could possibly dream of, my boyfriend and I set off bright eyed and bushy tailed, on a mission to find the best dishes the market could offer.

Knowing I’d have my fair share of bread, cheese and wine while in Lisbon, I must admit I couldn’t resist the burger option, Thai, Portugese and Japanese too. Ok, I may have been a tad bit hungover. Trust me, you would have done the same!

Here goes our brunch feast..

These were duck gizzards cooked in a rich port gravy with croutons. I’d never tried these before. They were tender and extremely meaty, but not exactly what I was pining for.

Next was a perfectly crispy cod tempura, much more to my liking.

This was followed by mixed seafood Pad Thai (no restaurant can ever beat the authenticity of Bangkok’s street food)…

…an incredibly juicy burger…

…and excellent soy-soaked gyozas.

All washed down with a couple of glasses of Douro. Unsurprisingly, this was more than enough fuel to get back to exploring Lisbon’s many sights. And just about help diminish my hangover.

Have you ever been to Time Out Mercado da Ribeira, and do you have any dishes to recommend? xx
