Formula One – Race Day

Happy New Year! I hope you had a fun 2016 celebration with plenty of good food and drink. Wishing that 2016 will be a wonderful, happy year for all of you. For me, 2016 brings along a new year, new life and new adventures that I’m so excited to pursue. I’m looking forward to sharing it all with you here on my blog.

During my stay in Abu Dhabi, being at the Formula One Grand Prix was an incredible experience I’ll never forget.

Even from our apartment on Yas Island, we woke up to energetic rumbles and roars of the formula one race cars whizzing around the track. We eagerly jumped out of bed and head off towards Yas Marina to join in on all the excitement.

Our short walk from the Yas Marina car park took us along a string of jaw-dropping yachts and sport cars. Talk about luxurious living! Each one was already pumping out music as caterers scurried here and there, delivering baskets of food and drink to each guest.

It’s the first time I’d ever been to a Formula One race, so the novelty of the experience lasted the whole weekend.

With much excitement, we found our way to our seats in one of the large grand stands and awaited the race to start.

We had such fantastic seats – right next to a rather frightening, sharp S-bend in the track. We could see the cars shoot along a straight route just before slowing down, with perfect precision, as they manoeuvred their way around the S-bend. The drivers really are incredible. The concentration and focus it takes to race around the track, not just once but over 50 times (!) is hugely impressive.

Even though Lewis Hamilton won the Formula One 2015 championship, Nico Rosberg won the Abu Dhabi Formula One to an extravagant celebration of fireworks and popping champagne.

Hamilton then decided to commemorate the final Formula One with doughnuts (not the eating kind) right in front of us!

Another great part of the Formula One weekend is that each night a different international artist comes along to perform at du arena, near the race track. The first night we were entertained by none other than Enrique Iglesias (this guy does not age at all?!), followed by Florence + the Machine, and finally Blur on the last night.

If you fancy it you can actually experience being an F1 driver in the circuit itself. From $435 you get to rev your very own 3000cc V6 engine. Book here if you’re up for it! xx
