A Beautiful Beach Wedding, Koh Samui

My sister recently got married. It was the most beautiful beach wedding in Koh Samui, Thailand.

Family and friends traveled from all corners of the world, reuniting in the gorgeous Banyan Tree Resort. The resort is an ideal, luxurious setting for a wedding. We were treated to large, private villas nestled amongst jungle cliffs that look over the ocean. We checked out the resort last year while wedding resort hunting and knew we wouldn’t find a better location.

The wedding was mostly organised by the resort as part of their wedding package. They did a fantastic job setting up the archway, chairs and walkway before the guests arrived. It was all just so exciting watching this stunning wedding come to life, especially after all our planning, organising and fretting! I’ve been mentally planning this wedding in my head since I wrote the Pinterest Wedding post!

The layout was exactly as we’d envisioned – an elegant, all-white theme overlooking the beach. Complete with cool breeze and soothing sounds of the ocean in the background. Perfection.

It made sense to hold the wedding on grass, otherwise how does the bride walk down the aisle in heels if it’s on sand? The shoe situation would be a nightmare!

While the resort staff were busy setting up the wedding, my sister and I were excitedly getting ready in her incredible villa. As soon as you walk in, all the anxiety and worry just lifts off your shoulders. Our eyes widened in awe at the spectacular view, not to mention private infinity pool, viewing deck, outdoor shower room, bathtub filled with roses and elegant living area. We put on our matching bathrobes and immediately ordered champagne and canapés room service while we got our hair and nails done. Ah it’s a tough life.. it only happens once through right?

Doesn’t my sister look absolutely stunning?

The photographer and videographer soon came in to the villa to capture each beautiful moment as we all got dolled up. We were grinning the entire time, completely giddy that this day had finally arrived.

This is one of my favourite photos of my sister and I – I can’t wait to get it printed and framed.

We were so delighted to see the resort had adorned one of the buggies in flowers and wedding ornaments for the bride. How adorable.

The ceremony was truly beautiful and couldn’t have been more perfect.

It was wonderfully emotional, I had to keep pinching myself to stop bursting in to tears!

You can’t predict how emotional you’ll feel when you see someone incredibly close to you gets married to the person they want to spend the rest of their life with. It’s just so incredibly special and beautiful, and completely overwhelming.

After the ceremony we all head over to the beach lounge for cocktails and nibbles before settling in for a magnificent 5-course meal at the resort restaurant.

At sunset we all released paper lanterns into the sky, wishing the beautiful bride and groom a long and wonderful marriage. Watching the little candles drift peacefully through the trees and up towards the sky was so picturesque. The kids absolutely loved it.

We ate, laughed, drank and listened to tear-jerking and funny speeches before dancing the night away. It was such a joyful and happy night celebrating the gorgeous newlyweds.

We didn’t think the wedding could possibly be any more perfect until a display of fireworks set off in the sky as the bride and groom cut their wedding cake.

My sister has definitely set the bar high for the rest of us in our family who are yet to be married. This beautiful Koh Samui beach wedding will be hard to beat that’s for sure!

  1. Fabulous. About the shoes and sand – my daughter’s wedding wasn’t on or near the beach, but she wore flip-flops with her wedding dress. I don’t think anyone actually noticed.
