I apologize for not writing a post in a very long time! My work dragged me away from blogging and instead tied me to a desk where I spent my time slaving over books and consuming an obscene amount of coffee. (And to think I thought those University days were over!).
However it was all worth it, as I’ve been spending my spare time since exploring more corners of the world. It started off in Seattle, Thailand, Malaysia, Nepal and finally Philippines. It’s been a complete blast and if you follow me on instagram you may have seen some snaps from my adventures so far!
I can’t wait to tell you all about it with tips/advice on the best places to stay and things to do, if you someday feel inspired to go to the same places yourself.
At the end of my last break, my boyfriend showed me around the sights of Seattle. I didn’t know too much about the city or Washington state beforehand, so I was pretty excited to discover a new part of the USA.
I can only describe the city as very cool, with a trendy, hipster vibe and just generally a fun place to be. The people are known for being kind and friendly, and the city prides itself on its great coffee, brewed beer and big foodie scene (which made me very happy!). It’s also home to Microsoft, Boeing and Starbucks to name a few.
Here’s a few snaps of the first ever Starbucks near Pikes Place Market (with a huuge, excited queue winding its way out the door and down the street).
It’s a great cultural city for live music and comedy too. I also love how green and outdoorsy the whole place is – big towering trees everywhere you look, mountains and lakes just around the corner.
As for health-food lovers (me included), there’s plentiful vegan and wholefood cafes to choose from. My vegan banana and chocolate-chip muffin was the eye-rolling, lip-smacking kind of good.
We stayed in a boat house on Union lake which was amazing. There’s such a lovely community of house-boats, all uniquely designed and lined up along a lovely boardwalk.
As well as having the most glorious views over the calm lake to Seattle’s famous needle tower and city skyline, it’s also right next to the coolest chill-out spot called Gas Works Park.
The first morning we went out for a Korean breakfast followed by seriously good coffee so I already knew I was going to love the city.
The nightlife scene is not lacking either. There’s a fantastic pizza-bar we went to for a friends birthday bash, called The Alibi Room. As soon as we opened the doors we were hit with the delightful wafts of their arugula and mozzarella wood fired pizza.
The place is hipster, dark and mysterious, especially as you go down a brick-walled alley to get in, nestled in the fantastic Pikes Place. It’s the most unique street I’ve walked through, especially since you pass through this…!
It’s called Gum Wall (no surprises there), a major tourist attraction that started in 1993. The wall has been slowly growing ever since, just don’t lean on it whatever you do!
Another fun-filled night was a bar crawl through a great neighborhood called Ballard. Think rustic cafes, bricked buildings lined with bushy-green trees, and live music bursting through every sociable bar.
I’m very excited to be returning to the city hopefully at the end of the month to discover more of what Seattle has to offer!
that is quite the circuit!
Seattle is very cool. I’ve only spent little time there but loved it. That muffin made me hungry.
