My 3 day juice detox

I love experimenting  in the way of new workouts and food routines. I’ve been trying to work out what works best for me for a while now, and think I’ve finally got it figured out. One big change is completely cutting out cereal from my diet. Possibly my favourite thing to eat. Ever. So this was no easy feat! But perhaps that can be left for another post.

I’ve read a lot about juicing and it’s benefits, so decided to try it for myself – diving head first in the way of a 3 day juice-only detox. This was from an app called ‘3 Day Detox – Juice Master’ by Jason Vale, promising me I’d lose 3 pounds in 3 days. It’s “designed to furnish the system with optimum nutrition without putting a burden on the digestive system.”

Could you go 3 days with no food? I asked myself.  Always up for a challenge, I cleared my schedule for the next 3 days and bought enough fruit & veg to feed a small army never mind just me alone. Bring it on!

Normally I’m quite skeptical about any form of ‘diet’ as I really believe that eating healthily should be kept as simple and straight forward as possible: Eat clean, unprocessed foods, 5 times a day. For me eating almost the same certain foods each day works best, I just love having a routine – knowing what I’m going to eat at what time. However after doing this detox I really believe that a total body cleanse/junk removing process for your body is pretty fantastic to kick-start a healthy regime.

Here’s the low-down on the app’s instructions. (I do recommend buying it for yourself as there’s also videos, pictures and extra features which are fun to follow):

For all recipes, simply put all ingredients in the juicer except from the avocado and ice (if required). When using an avocado and ice, first make the juice, then put the avocado flesh in a blender followed by the juice and ice cubes.

At times I certainly felt low on energy/zombie-like and unable to string a sentence together (hint: skip the date or girly catchup sesh). I was rather headachy (make sure you drink lots of water!), although this may have sadly been to my lack of caffeine.. and didn’t feel up for doing much exercise never mind an Insanity workout. However as a whole I loved the outcome and definitely recommend it. Surprisingly each juice was very filling, especially with all those delicious avocados, that it took me a while to drink each one. Perhaps that was because I wanted to savour every sip before having to wait for my next juice/meal. I felt completely cleansed and flushed from any toxins (great if you’ve just been on a junk food binge!). My stomach was flatter than ever, skin was clear and felt a real sense of achievement. Also as many people agree, your sugar cravings disappear after wards (win!) and you generally feel motivated to continue a ‘clean and green’ eating routine. At least for a while anyway.. Are you up for the challenge? Try it for yourself!

Tips:

-It helps to do it with someone, these things are always better and more fun with a buddy.

-The juicer I used was excellent – simple to use and easy to clean. Its called Philips HR1869/00 Avance Juicer.

  1. I just finished a similar 3 day detox and agree that during the time I was tired and headachy but by the end I was really happy with the results! I didn’t miss sugar at all but surprisingly I found myself craving salt. Off to make a smoothie for lunch now. 🙂

  2. Hi Melissa-
First off- How does that avocado juice? I just imagine ii yucking up the blade!
I actually loved doing a 3 day juice “fast”. Much more than I thought and enough that I will maybe do it a couple times a year. I did find it bumped up my grocery budget buying so much organic produce at once. But it was worth it.
And I agree- the cravings have shifted and the first bite of apple pie I had made me almost cringe as it was so sweet. It was interesting.
I went to my first dinner party last night after now 3 weeks of no sugar, dairy, wheat, alcohol and very little meat. I had champagne, red wine, fois gras, cassoulet, variety of cheeses, cannelles and dessert. It all tasted wonderful but felt like a bomb in my stomach. A good walk took care of it but this morning I’m a little groggy!
    cheers, wendy
