48 Hours in Ibiza

I booked a last minute trip to Ibiza over the weekend. I’ve been itching to experience this famous, hedonistic party-island for a long time.

Normally I love to search, plan, mull over the best hotel/hostel to stay at, taking pleasure in the planning as my excitement builds up. This time I didn’t over-think. I just searched top party-hotels in Ibiza, booked No.1 and decided it would be 48 hours of luxury and utter indulgence, no questions asked. It didn’t disappoint.

July is the most popular time to go to Ibiza, therefore going around June before it gets truly packed is perfect for a summer break. It is not yet too busy while the opening parties are all gradually creeping in.

Even my flight there was unexpectedly entertaining. I got an Easyjet flight from Gatwick airport. Much to my amusement (kind of), the flight was more like a trip to the zoo, where everyone was sufficiently wasted 30 minutes after take-off. Being i’m sure the only solo person on the plane, i had to bite my lip a few times for fear of bursting into laughter at the hilarity around me. 10 minutes in to the flight, a girl to my left decided to skip the introductories with the guy in front of her and was literally slapping him around the head (?) which quickly led to them intimately feeding bits of sandwich in to each others mouths. In front of me the loudest girl i’ve ever heard was literally roaring with laughter for the entire duration of the flight at an attempt of flirtation towards the guy next to her, while the couple behind me were licking each others faces off like there was no tomorrow. The small girl up the aisle looked at me wide-eyed and positively scared.

Stay

First of all the hotel we stayed at was fantastic – the popular Ushuaia Beach Hotel located in Playa d’en Bossa. A perfect party hotel, where from 5pm until midnight about 7000 people surrounded the pool, all dancing and drinking under the sunshine in sybaritic splendor. It was the opening party for the night named ‘Join the Colony’, where ant figures and statues covered the walls and surfaces, even the bronzed skin of every long-legged, almost-naked bar staff there. Before we joined the ‘colony’, we decided to rent a big sun-bed on the beach in front of the hotel and soak in the last bit of sunshine. Of course this came with a price-tag. However much to my delight within minutes a bucket of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Champagne was promptly placed at our side by a gorgeous waiter who would be there to take care of us for the night. Yes please.

I wasn’t expecting it at all, but the beach was gorgeous – white, soft sand complete with a rainbow of blue ocean. This part I guess I expected – more than an eyeful of naked silicon-filled boobies and skimpy bikinis clung to skinny bodies.

Beach Lounge/Eat

Ibiza has an overwhelming number of gorgeous beach lounge/restaurants to choose from in just a 48-hour period. Here are my top 2 picks:

Blue Marlin – This popular beach lounge provides drink and food all day, converting to a stunning little restaurant at night complete with trees covered in fairy lights hanging over you. Although pricey, the food on the varied menu did not disappoint. However it is definitely for the romantic and special ambiance that you would come here for. Perfect for people-watching, soaking in the decadent atmosphere, romance and great music. (Cuisine: Mediterranean, Seafood, International).

Blue Marlin

Experimental Beach Club – Don’t miss this new cocktail-hang out, an absolute gem of a restaurant. It’s the simple yet extremely elegant, nautical decor that made me fall in love with this place instantly. Come here for dinner and cocktails while enjoying one of the best sunsets on the island. Although the cocktail menu is small, it’s evident that care and effort has gone in to every drink, each with its own original twist. They were delicious. As the fairy lights gradually twinkle on the darker the night sky becomes, the atmosphere just gets better. This place is a special experience, at the same time as allowing you to feel comfortable and homely. (Cuisine: Mediterranean, Seafood).
